Cleaning Procedure for Shotguns, Lever Actions, Semiautomatic Rifles and Pistols

NOTE:

**BEFORE YOU START THE CLEANING PROCESS, MAKE SURE YOUR FIREARM IS UNLOADED AND YOU HAVE A WELL VENTILATED AREA, AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND/OR DISTRACTIONS, TO WORK IN!

**SHOOTERS CHOICE XTREME CLEAN BORE AND ACTION CLEANER CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR MC#7 BORE CLEANER AND CONDITIONER.**

Shooters Choice Shotgun and Choke Tube Cleaner has been specifically formulated and is recommended for cleaning of Shotgun Barrels, Choke Tubes and Actions. However, Shooters Choice MC#7 Firearms Bore Cleaner and Conditioner can be substituted.

  1. MC#7 Bore Cleaner and Conditioner

Start by saturating a patch with Shooter’s Choice MC#7
Bore Cleaner and Conditioner. Then push the patch through
the bore to remove the loose powder residue, which will
totally expose the copper and lead fouling. A one piece
coated cleaning rod is recommended. A coated rod will protect
the bore and lands in case the rod bows during cleaning.
Remember, a $20.00 rod is cheaper than a $300.00 barrel.

  2. When accessible, squirt the MC#7 Bore Cleaner directly
into the chamber. Otherwise, wet a patch and run it through
the chamber. (Use our 2 oz. refillable, solvent resistant,
bottle for squirting the solvent, it is designed for this
purpose. DO NOT transfer our solvent into any other containers.
MC#7 Bore Cleaner is designed to remove Plastic Shotgun
Wad Fouling therefore, it will attack most plastic bottles.)
  3. Wet a properly fitted Phosphorous Bronze Brush and push
it back and forth through the bore 10 to 12 times. A generous
amount of Bore Cleaner is required to attack built up plastic
wad fouling in Shotguns. We recommend using a straight (rather
than tapered) bronze bristled brush with a brass core to
prevent any damage to the bore or shotgun tube.
  4. Apply more MC#7 Bore Cleaner into the chamber and
use a properly fitted chamber brush, pushing it back and
forth 10 to 12 times to remove any carbon and to help prevent
the chamber from pitting and deterioration. When a ported
barrel is present, apply solvent directly onto the ports
and brush thoroughly with a solvent resistant double ended
    nylon bristle brush.
  5. Dry patch and repeat steps 2 and 3. However, this time,
let the solvent remain in the bore for 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Now push a dry patch through the bore. If the patch comes
out clean, the cleaning procedure is complete. A blue/green
patch indicates that copper fouling* is still present, a
black patch indicates that powder and carbon fouling is
still present. If the patch comes out dirty, repeat the
above steps until a clean patch is produced.
  7. Quick Srub III Cleaner/Degreaser

To clean the receiver and trigger assembly, apply Shooter’s
Choice MC#7 Bore Cleaner and Conditioner directly to
the areas that need cleaning and then flush these areas
with Shooter’s Choice Quick Scrub Cleaner/Degreaser.

  8. After cleaning with MC#7 Bore Cleaner, flush all
contaminated brushes with Shooter’s Choice Quick Scrub
Cleaner/Degreaser to remove the dirty residue and to
neutralize the solvent from dissolving the bristles.
  9. After you have cleaned your bore and wiped off any residual
bore cleaner, apply either Shooter’s Choice High-Tech
all Weather Grease or FP-10 Lubricant Elite to
all moving parts and wear surfaces. APPLY SPARINGLY!! More
is not better in lubricating a firearm. Today’s lubricants
are designed to operate when used sparingly, over lubrication
    can cause malfunctions.
  10. Rust Prevent Preservative/Lubricant

To protect your firearm from Rust and Corrosion for short
and long term storage, saturate a patch with Shooter’s
Choice Rust Prevent and run the patch through the bore.
Spray the complete receiver, trigger assembly and all exterior
metal surfaces with Rust Prevent. This will offer outstanding
protection from the elements as well as finger print acids.
Shooter’s Choice Rust Prevent is harmless to most
surfaces, including wood and plastic. Always apply your
lubrication to your metal to metal wear points prior to
applying the Rust Prevent. Shooter’s Choice Rust Prevent
is designed to pull the moisture out of the pores of the
steel and seal them from the elements. Shooter’s Choice
lubricants are designed to penetrate the pores of the steel
and will continue to lubricate even when the majority is
removed due to heat and recoil.

NOTE:

Extra Strength Copper Remover

For heavy copper fouled bores use Shooter’s Choice Extra Strength Copper Remover. The Copper remover is designed to only remove copper fouling. It is very important to follow all of the instructions on the label for safe and complete copper fouling removal.

RECOMMENDATION:

Prior to shooting the previously cleaned firearm, run a wet patch with Shooter’s Choice MC#7 Bore Cleaner and Conditioner to break down any oils or rust inhibitors. Then dry patch to remove the contaminated bore cleaner. This procedure will bring back the proper pressures and should insure first round accuracy.
